POWER TO REVIVE THE DEAD

Scripture Reading: Acts 20:7-12

Paul ... threw himself on the young man... "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!" Acts 20:10

At funeral services we hear about Christ's power over death. But wouldn't it be great if our preachers could bring our deceased loved ones back to life, as Paul did?

During one of Paul's long, evening preaching sessions, a young man named Eutychus fell asleep and fell from a window. He was pronounced dead at the scene. But Christ's power over death extended through his servant Paul to bring this young man back to life--to God's glory.

In the name of Christ, we can still call the dead back to life. That doesn't mean we all will literally raise the dead from their coffins or graves. But it does mean we are ready to set out on every life-giving mission God has in store for us.

God wants to use us to bring new life to dead souls through the living message of the gospel (see 2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Jesus himself referred to this spread of new life when he said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father" (John 14:12).

Let's prepare ourselves, then, and become faithful servants through whom the Lord will bring healing, life, and salvation to the world.

Prayer

Lord, use us to bring about healing, life, and salvation in this world, that your name may be glorified throughout the earth. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
