Scripture Reading: Hebrews 8

After that time … I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Hebrews 8:10

As we seek spiritual renewal, we must nurture our walk with God. As we do that, we may want to draw from Christian writers of past centuries or contemporary spiritual leaders we admire—or both. It’s good to have people we can trust to help guide us along life’s journey. The insights and experiences of other believers can help mentor us and encourage us to a deeper relationship with God.

Yet renewal isn’t a solitary discipline. Renewal happens in relationship—with God. Deepening spiritual depth and growing spiritual stamina never begin with us. Renewal begins with God, who says, “After that time … I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people” (see also Jeremiah 31:33). This remarkable theme is that God is the great Change Agent. He will transform our minds and enrich our hearts. He wants us to think his thoughts after him—and to love what he loves! We grow spiritually and emotionally when we work with our wonderful God.

In God’s strength, grow to deepen relationships, broaden horizons, and find peace and hope for everyday living. Let God pull his weight! We’ll be surprised—and thankful—for the changes that we’ll see.

Prayer

God, give me courage and grace to follow your lead in my spiritual growth. Don’t let me be lazy and do too little—but open my heart to love, and my mind to think of you. Amen.

Just a comment on the “new” format of the TODAY. It may be new, but it isn’t terribly user friendly. Double column makes it more diffiult to read and the grayed background for the scripture and prayer minimize the contrast with the printed word. This is particularly true for those of us with older eyes who already struggle with reading normal print without magnification assistance!
